The key domestic indices finished slightly lower. Nifty Realty, Nifty Media and Nifty Chemicals shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG shares fell.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 417.49 points or 0.55% to 76,152.86. The Nifty 50 index lost 41 points or 0.17% to 23,873.45. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 0.86% and 1.05%, respectively.

The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved higher by 0.15% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index climbed 1.01%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 3012 shares gained and 2078 shares retreated. A total of 214 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 277.71 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 31.62% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has plunged around 6.93% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 25.80% over last one year.

Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 219.65 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 38.83% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 3.74% in last one-month and has risen sharply 16.07% over last one year.

The Nifty Realty index advanced sharply by 2.58% to 916.15 today. The index has fallen by 1.87% in last one week and has eased by 2.18% over last one month. It has edged higher by 0.79% in last one year. Brigade Enterprises Ltd (up 11.30%), Anant Raj Ltd (up 6.70%), Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (up 3.44%), Sobha Ltd (up 2.36%) and Lodha Developers Ltd (up 2.13%) gained.

The Nifty Media index increased by 1.74% to 1560.75 today. The index has declined sharply by 4.77% in last one week and has slipped by 2.20% over last one month. It eased by 5.45% in last one year. Prime Focus Ltd (up 4.03%), Saregama India Ltd (up 3.43%), Tips Music Ltd (up 3.26%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 3.10%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 1.18%) advanced.

The Nifty IT index edged lower by 0.85% to 30838.85 today. The index is higher by 2.59% in last one week and has drifted lower by 1.93% over last one month. It lost 12.97% in last one year. Tech Mahindra Ltd (down 1.54%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 1.19%), HCL Technologies Ltd (down 0.94%), Infosys Ltd (down 0.85%) and Wipro Ltd (down 0.77%) moved lower.

The Nifty FMCG index inched down by 0.62% to 45955.65 today. The index has retreated by 2.14% in last one week and has lost 7.46% over last one month. It tumbled by 18.60% in last one year. Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (down 2.76%), Varun Beverages Ltd (down 1.89%), ITC Ltd (down 1.24%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd (down 0.66%) and Nestle India Ltd (down 0.63%) went down.
