The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in the mid-morning trade, supported by healthy second-quarter corporate earnings. However, investors remained cautious amid uncertainty surrounding progress on a potential U.S.-India trade deal.
The Nifty traded above the 25,950 mark. Private bank shares extended gains for a seventh consecutive trading session.
At 12:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, gained 249.78 points or 0.30% to 84,812.56. The Nifty 50 index rose 60.95 points or 0.24% to 25,969.10. The Nifty Bank index hit a record high of 58,979.85 in morning trade.
The broader market outperforms frontline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index jumped 0.56% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rallied 0.49%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,057 shares rose and 2,039 shares fell. A total of 246 shares were unchanged.
Derivatives:
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, shed 0.92% to 11.83. The Nifty 25 November 2025 futures were trading at 26,046.20, at a premium of 77.1 points as compared with the spot at 25,969.10.
The Nifty option chain for the 20 October 2025 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 86.9 lakh contracts at the 26,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 63.2 lakh contracts was seen at 26,000 strike price.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Private Bank index shed 0.78% to 28,412. The index rose 2.16% in the seven consecutive trading sessions.
Private Bank index, Yes Bank (up 3.11%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.06%), Bandhan Bank (up 0.96%), Axis Bank (up 0.92%), IDFC First Bank (up 0.85%), Federal Bank (up 0.64%), IndusInd Bank (up 0.54%), ICICI Bank (up 0.41%), and HDFC Bank (up 0.17%) added.
Stocks in Spotlight:
Narayana Hrudayalaya rallied 4.70% after the company reported a 30.1% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 258.37 crore on a 20.3% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 1,643.79 crore in Q2 FY26 over Q2 FY25.
Speciality Restaurants jumped 5.26% after the company reported a 70.8% jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 46.09 crore on an 11.6% rise in revenue from operations to Rs 1,164.38 crore in Q2 FY26 as compared with Q2 FY25.
