The key domestic indices finished slightly lower. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Pharma shares rose, while Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank shares retreated.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, down 8.08 points to 73,598.67. The Nifty 50 index down 3.45 points to 22,749.75.

The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 1.05% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index registered sharp gains of 2%.

The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 3482 shares advanced and 1728 shares fell. A total of 229 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 406.15 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 24.69% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has tumbled 4.31% in last one-month and has plunged 31.40% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 285.42 lakh shares and recorded a sharp decline of 35.36% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has edged lower 1.63% in last one-month and has eased 2.44% over last one year.

The Nifty Media index soared 3.66% to 1615.05 today. The index has slumped by 5.22% in last one week and has edged up 1.22% over last one month. It edged up by 1.43% in last one year. Sun TV Network Ltd (up 10.92%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 9.04%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 4.22%), Saregama India Ltd (up 4.18%) and Tips Music Ltd (up 3.45%) moved up.

The Nifty Realty index rose by 1.94% to 805.05 today. The index is sharply lower by 3.23% in last one week and has declined 7.19% over last one month. It has fallen sharply by 17.28% in last one year. Sobha Ltd (up 4.40%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 3.96%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 3.10%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 2.34%) and Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 1.84%) went up.

The Nifty Private Bank index inched down by 0.73% to 26628.45 today. The index has eased by 1.34% in last one week and has posted modest gains of 1.32% over last one month. It is down 5.59% in last one year. IndusInd Bank Ltd (down 1.33%), Axis Bank Ltd (down 1.17%), ICICI Bank Ltd (down 1.15%), HDFC Bank Ltd (down 1.14%) and Federal Bank Ltd (down 0.81%) retreated.

The Nifty Bank index moved lower by 0.72% to 53974.9 today. The index is lower by 2.02% in last one week and has slipped by 0.19% over last one month. It slipped by 6.45% in last one year. AU Small Finance Bank Ltd (down 2.42%), State Bank of India (down 1.63%), IndusInd Bank Ltd (down 1.33%), Axis Bank Ltd (down 1.17%) and ICICI Bank Ltd (down 1.15%) went down.

Global Markets

European markets showed a slight improvement.

DOW futures are edging higher by 0.23% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are marginally lower by 0.97% at Rs 9717.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures ended with a modest loss of 0.08% at 22748 and are in a discount of 1 points compared to NIFTY50.
