The key domestic indices finished marginally higher. Nifty Metal, Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares gained, while Nifty Media shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest gains of 482.92 points or 0.66% to 73,606.75. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 153.20 points or 0.68% to 22,753.20.

The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index increased by 1.16% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.94%.

The market breadth was healthy. On the BSE, 2941 shares advanced and 2339 shares fell. A total of 242 shares were unchanged.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 325.85 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 92.01% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has jumped by around 4.17% in last one-month and has fallen 3.28% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 321.71 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 21.70% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 7.37% in last one-month and has retreated 3.33% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Metal index gained 2.21% to 11731.55 today. The index is sharply lower by 5.40% in last one week and has plunged 13.71% over last one month. It rose by 12.07% in last one year. JSW Steel Ltd (up 6.28%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 3.53%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 3.32%), Jindal Steel Ltd (up 2.36%) and APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (up 2.17%) rose.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index moved up by 1.77% to 15658.7 today. The index is lower by 1.89% in last one week and has shed 8.78% over last one month. It edged higher by 2.67% in last one year. Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd (up 6.62%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 4.51%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (up 4.49%), Fortis Healthcare Ltd (up 3.06%) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 2.74%) went up.

The Nifty Media index edged lower by 0.34% to 1558.1 today. The index has slumped by 5.15% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 0.22% over last one month. It inched up by 1.10% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 1.80%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 1.32%), Sun TV Network Ltd (down 1.16%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (down 0.47%) and D B Corp Ltd (down 0.41%) traded lower.

The Nifty Consumer Durables index slipped by 0.21% to 33851.1 today. The index has tumbled by 6.42% in last one week and has slumped 11.20% over last one month. It has weakened by 13.08% in last one year. Havells India Ltd (down 2.05%), Amber Enterprises India Ltd (down 1.61%), Kajaria Ceramics Ltd (down 1.60%), Bata India Ltd (down 1.50%) and Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd (down 1.41%) retreated.

Global Markets

European markets edged higher.

DOW futures are trading a little higher by 0.37% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are edging lower by 1.27% at Rs 9783.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures finished the session with a tiny gain of 0.88% at 22775 and are in a premium of 22 points compared to NIFTY50.
