The key domestic indices closed slightly higher. Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Realty and Nifty Auto shares gained, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Media shares fell.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 315.20 points or 0.43% to 73,895.74. The Nifty 50 index edged higher by 77.40 points or 0.34% to 23,140.50. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 0.81% and 0.85%, respectively.

The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.25% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index remained flat.

The market breadth was well-supported. On the BSE, 2717 shares rose and 2494 shares declined. A total of 227 shares were unchanged.

Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 245.08 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 21.39% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has rallied 2.55% in last one-month and has slipped 0.09% over last one year.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 226.35 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 129.51% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 6.17% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 28.65% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Consumer Durables index moved higher by 0.95% to 38278.6 today. The index is marginally lower by 0.25% in last one week and has lost 6.27% over last one month. It is down 1.85% in last one year. Whirlpool of India Ltd (up 7.67%), Blue Star Ltd (up 2.62%), LG Electronics India Ltd (up 1.63%), Titan Company Ltd (up 1.07%) and PG Electroplast Ltd (up 0.79%) moved up.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index slipped by 0.47% to 16678.55 today. The index is up 1.38% in last one week and has edged up 2.07% over last one month. It jumped by 15.05% in last one year. Fortis Healthcare Ltd (down 4.50%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (down 3.06%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd (down 2.07%), Ipca Laboratories Ltd (down 1.32%) and Biocon Ltd (down 1.25%) declined.

The Nifty Media index edged lower by 0.23% to 1550.65 today. The index is slightly higher by 1.38% in last one week and has inched lower by 3.06% over last one month. It eased by 3.07% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 1.66%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 1.04%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 0.82%), Saregama India Ltd (down 0.31%) and Hathway Cable & Datacom Ltd (down 0.30%) slipped.

Global Markets

European markets showed a slight improvement.

DOW futures are up by 0.35% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are substantially lower by 3.08% at Rs 9152.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures ended slightly higher by 0.35% at 23190 and are in a premium of 50 points compared to NIFTY50.
