Gift Nifty posted modest gains, Asian markets were marginally higher

Local stock markets are expected to begin on a subdued note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are up 0.04 points, indicating a slightly firm opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly lower.The BSE Sensex has eased 4.32% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has slipped 4.39% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was slightly firmer. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.12% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 posted modest gains of 0.93%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index eased 0.15%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 930 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,968 crore in the Indian equity market on 14 September 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest losses across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 152.09 points, or 0.29%, and closed at 52442.20. The S&P 500 posted modest losses of 0.48% to end at 7641.25, and the NASDAQ Composite edged lower 0.55% to 26209.61.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex slipped 120.83 points or 0.16% to 74781.76. The Nifty 50 index ended slightly lower by 79.70 points or 0.34% to 23398.10. HDFC Bank Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, inching higher 2.08% to Rs 708.25. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Private Bank index edged up yesterday, adding 0.48% on the day.
