Gift Nifty recorded robust gains, Asian markets posted modest gains

Local stock markets are set for a robust opening today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are sharply higher by 4.41 points, signaling a strong start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 in negative territory.The BSE Sensex has drifted lower 2.63% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has slipped 3.47% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was slightly firmer. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.50% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 ticked up 0.20%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 0.26%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 6,688 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 2,812 crore in the Indian equity market on 2 September 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks inched up across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up by 295.07 points, or 0.56%, and closed at 53082.95. The S&P 500 posted modest gains of 0.47% to end at 7688.45, and the NASDAQ Composite inched higher 0.44% to 26235.52.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex slipped 373.93 points or 0.49% to 76570.35. The Nifty 50 index edged lower 141.35 points or 0.59% to 23914.45. Coal India Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, edging up 4.05% to Rs 417.85. The stock has inched higher around 1.43% in last one-week and is lower 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Realty index moved higher yesterday, gaining 0.21% on the day.
