Gift Nifty spiked, Asian markets traded slightly lower

Local stock markets are expected to kick off trade with strong gains today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are rallying 1 points, foreshadowing a strong opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market posted modest gains in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly higher. Both the indices have posted modest gains of 2% over last one-month. In Asia today, sentiment was slightly weaker. China’s SSE Composite Index eased 0.58% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 posted modest losses of 1.74%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index inched higher 0.21%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 277 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 2,260 crore in the Indian equity market on 2 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks edged higher across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 276.97 points, or 0.53%, and closed at 52506.03. The S&P 500 posted modest gains of 0.70% to end at 7510.52, and the NASDAQ Composite moved higher 1% to 25393.53. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex added 166.49 points or 0.21% to 78094.64. The Nifty 50 index edged up 66.45 points or 0.27% to 24383.60. Bajaj Finance Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, posting modest gains of 8.32% to Rs 1141.20. The stock has risen slightly around 1.43% in last one-week and stands lower 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty Media index inched higher yesterday, rising 2.09% on the day.
